2022–23 Public by Design Publication
Public by Design is a guide to reimagining public space through community-driven design. Serving as both an archival record and post-exhibition catalog of the fourth cycle of Exhibit Columbus, this book showcases how art, architecture, and collaboration can transform downtowns into vibrant, equitable, and joyful places.
Through in-depth essays, project highlights, and reflections from designers, curators, and community members, Public by Design offers practical insights for those working to shape more inclusive and dynamic public spaces. Spanning the two-year journey from the 2022 Symposium to the 2023 Exhibition, this richly illustrated volume documents innovative design interventions, public engagement strategies, and the partnerships that made them possible.
Edited by Jamie Goldsborough (Landmark Columbus Foundation Creative Director) and designed by Chris Grimley of SIGNALS (2022–23 Exhibit Columbus Communication Designer), this publication is both an inspiring record and a hands-on resource for urban leaders, design professionals, and community organizers. With adaptable ideas and approaches, Public by Design encourages fresh ways to think about public space and its role in everyday life.
